Domain Management

Domains in PlanningIT enable customers to structure the Enterprise along the lines of capabilities and structure the Enterprise from a functional point of view, often a necessary step in order to define a service-oriented architecture. Domains /Capabilities can then be evaluated with regards to how those capabilities are currently and in the future supported by IT initiatives. The colors in above screenshot of a domain model can represent a cost view, a satisfaction view or any other indicator that is associated with the capability. Domains can be defined from a business or a technology point of view.

Capability Heatmaps

Once the Domain / Capability structure is defined, the next steps is to allows the business to determine current performance vs. desired performance and gain a clear understanding of which capabilities are core to the business and warrant further IT support. The delta between current and desired performance presents a clear expression of the business to IT where there is a need for action. Right from the capability map, users can evaluate for each of the capabilities what projects are already planned or under way, what the current application landscape is and initiate other analytical views.

Business Organization and IT Landscapes

The diagram above shows an application diagram that shows the overall IT landscape of an organization, here the FD trading organization. This landscape includes information flows, application health information and specific information for the current existing interfaces (batch, online, etc). Users very quickly understand the impact that changes to the application will have on other applications. The data can be filtered so that only relevant information is displayed.
